Bekaert

Founded in 1880 and headquartered in Belgium, Bekaert is a global leader in steel wire transformation and coating technologies, with operations in over 45 countries. A key part of its strategy today is driving sustainability across industries—especially in construction. Bekaert’s most impactful contribution to sustainable construction is Dramix®, its steel fiber reinforcement solution for concrete. Unlike traditional rebar, Dramix® fibers are mixed directly into the concrete, reducing the need for mesh or bars. This approach enables thinner slabs, faster installation, and significant reductions in material use and emissions. Dramix® can reduce the carbon footprint of concrete applications by 20–50%, depending on the structure. It also improves durability and extends service life, which further reduces lifecycle emissions. Dramix® comes with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which support green building certifications like LEED and BREEAM. Bekaert is also committed to circularity. Its steel products contain a high percentage of recycled content, and the company recycles all steel scrap from its operations. In addition, it’s exploring ways to recover and reuse steel fibers from demolished concrete, giving materials a second life. To advance its climate goals, Bekaert has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aiming to reduce direct emissions by over 46% by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. The company is also increasing its use of renewable energy across global sites and enhancing energy efficiency through programs like “You Know Watt.”
